Introduction

Since 1998, the implementation of the General Exceptional Medical Expenses Act (AWBZ) has been the responsibility of the care offices. These offices have been set up by the jointly operating care insurers. Care offices operate independently - while being closely allied to the care insurer on the spot - and aim to achieve an optimal alignment of the demand and supply of care in a specific region.
