EHIC

The production and distribution of the European Health Insurance Card are the exclusive competence of the authorities of the Member States. In line with EU rules, all EEA (European Economic Areas) countries are issuing the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).

The EHIC gives the holder rights to treatment that becomes medically necessary during a temporary visit to EEA countries or Switzerland. 
The EHIC covers treatment provided by the state health care scheme in the country you are visiting.
